#OSCARSNOLONGERSOWHITE

OSCARS.

Last year, Black American actors boycotted the Oscar Academy  awards.
In fact those that attended were called names such as "sell outs" and other denigrating labels. The harsh tag #oscarsowhite trended on twitter and other social media forum for months before and after the award ceremony.

Not minding the fact that the president of the  Oscar awards is a black american woman, who stood firmly with the academy's decision on the movies and actors that got the accolades.
No black actor was nominated in major/ minor categories, yet they had good movies that broke the box office.

Jada Pinkett and Will Smith headlined the boycott as I recall perfectly.

The backlash on mainstream media was enormous to the extent that actors fees based on their races and gender was exposed and irregularities and disparity came into the public glare.

Fast forwards 2017.

The never-die spirit in the blacks are reawakened, the movie Fences, produced and directed by Denzel Washington.
He also starred in it.

Fences is the Academy's holy grail this year.

Viola Davis , also a black american actor is nominated in the best actress category alongside Denzel for best actor in this said blockbuster.

She goes down in history as the highest nominated black american female actor, with this third nomination.

Fences. Best picture category also. Five nominations so far.

This is a big win for black American cinema.

For the movie academy in general.
Fair play.
Fair playing ground.
They did their homework well.

They saw their short comings and adjusted. They rebelled, they stood for their rights.
And they earned it.

I will be watching the Oscar Academy awards this year and hopefully Whoppie Goldberg won't be the only black actor on the red carpet.

Salut!
